Pepe is a lumberjack in a happy village. But in just a few days, a series of tragic events destroys the harmony of this peaceful life. But nothing seems to trouble Pepe and his so placid and annoyingly happy face.
Six years after his beautiful Kaurismakian Olli Mäki, Mikko Myllylahti is back with a sterner philosophical fable, laced with spurts of violence, that while remaining absurd and funny, questions existential darkness in the manner of Buzzati... in a white immensity. This atmosphere of loneliness and doom is embodied by Pepe, incredibly portrayed by Jarkko Lahti, as an enigmatic stoïc whose feigned candor is only a soft protective cloak. Through the odyssey of this new Job, the filmmaker depicts an image of individual resistance that questions the meaning of happiness, from its essence to its quest.
