On holiday in Tuscany, a Danish family makes friends with a Dutch family, who a few months later invites them over for a weekend. But this idyllic sojourn, where discretion and extroversion unite will turn into a nightmare.
Look out! Civilization clash! In the manner of Ruben Östlund, the Danish filmmaker organizes his horror movie like a grotesque misanthropic satire, a slaughter game that cleverly reverses the codes of the home invasion genre, by making the guests their hosts’ prisoners. Tafdrup gradually raises the tension, from a trivial incident to fatal misdoings... with graphic violence. Speak No Evil is a Danish and Dutch co-production, which is reassuring because it means dialog does seem possible after all.
