Criminal boss Poshaev rules Karatas with an iron fist, murdering all those who would oppose him. He relies on Arzu, who becomes his right hand man. But can he really be trusted?
An Étrange Festival without a Yerzhanov, is a bit like Brassens without his guitar. The prolific director pursues his exploration of genres by submitting them to his vision. His fondness of panoramics, Kazakh horizons and their emptiness, probably enticed him to take on the western genre, in his own way, with his distorted sense of time, that calm before the storm, with shamanic chants to replace Morricone. Goliath is also, through quotations from Machiavelli’s Prince, a reflection on dominant/dominated relationships and the workings of tyrannic power.
