How to film sex properly ? 18

How to film sex properly ?

Olympe de Gê

What is the most palpable way of showing sex, and never upset the actresses and actors? The question remains with me and these two films ask it with talent - the first one frontally, the second as a negative. These two documentaries invite us to two very different sex scene shootings. We follow two directors, one is a girl film student who wants to shoot a sex scene in the most respectable way possible towards the actors, the other is a 50 year old guy who shoots one porn after the other, naked. These two films generated a subtle discomfort within me. But all good : it means they ask disturbing questions.

A group of cinema students sets out to shoot sex scenes. The film concentrates on the new mission of the intimacy coordinator present on the set. Despite (or maybe because of) the rigorous rules she sets, tensions arise. What about the actresses? What about the dialog? Many thanks to François Marache from Courts Mais Trash for this discovery.

Raphaël Siboni, a contemporary artist, conceived this film from thousands of hours of making_of footage shot by porn actor, director and producer HPG. Depicted is a portrait, not of HPG, but of the sex workers facing his camera. In the scenes chosen by Siboni, the laborers of porn get bored, cry, or suddenly kiss… Consent for some may be breached, though it’s hard to see, but the assertiveness and verve of others, like young Anna Polina, is rejoicing and gives hope.
