It took Mariano Baino thirty years to make his second feature film after his cult Lovecraftian Dark Waters, extending its dark world, its deliquescence and alchemical poetry. Co-written with his muse, actress Coralina Cataldi-Tassoni (Opera) who delivers an incredible trance-like performance, Astrid's Saints is a requiem where madness infiltrates the image as much as those dripping water drops. It's a sublime artistic gesture that transcends cinema, a spectral work that haunts us long after the screening. We can’t believe our eyes.
