A drifter returns to his childhood home to carry out his revenge...
The first feature film by Jeremy Saulnier, as a writer, director and cinematographer, Blue Ruin is a merciless and brutal revenge movie, borrowing as much from early Cohen brothers films (Blood Simple), as from American noir novels, when they descended into the abysses of crime to reveal tragedy, to describe the failure of ideals, showing the fragilities of both of mankind and the communities meant to shelter it. This film saw the revelation of Macon Blair, a recurrent figure in Saulnier’s cinema, a rare and precious actor of American independent cinema; his performance as a hobo turned killing machine is unforgettable.

Jeremy Saulnier’s powerful directing: when a limited budget becomes a creative strength, where the smallest element is used and pushed to its limits. I was struck by the raw, immersive aspect. Almost like D.I.Y. I loved following the character’s revenge. And fragility. And that gun shot !
