Cheng Xia Zi, a blind bounty hunter, sees his mission turn into a vengeance when he meets Ni Yan, the sole survivor of her family’s massacre.
For his first feature as a director, scriptwriter Yang Bingjia revisits the myth of the blind swordsman, immortalized in Japan by Zatoïchi. With this stylized work, with its hyper cut editing, following the tracks of Tsui Hark and Sergio Leone, he brilliantly renews the Chinese wu xia pian genre, somewhere between a tribute to Hong Kong tradition and modernity; sometimes nervous, sometimes lyrical. It’s always moving to witness the birth of a new silent lonesome hero, even more so when he has the face of Xie Miao, (Ip Man: The Awakening), whose feats are as spectacular as his soul is enigmatic…
