Thai army soldiers suffer from a strange disease that throws them into a deep sleep. In a country school turned into a makeshift hospital, they are dutifully cared for by nurses, the medium Ken or the elderly Jen, who develops a fondness for one of them…
Weerasethakul’s seventh feature film, Cemetery of Splendour is also maybe one of his most beautiful and accessible. Not that it’s less radical and thorough than his previous films, but the Thai filmmaker’s mysticism is enriched in an almost antithetic way by a surprising gentleness and a furious critic against his country locked down by military powers. A work of great beauty!

Flying Lotus

I am a big fan of Apichatpong Weerasethakul’s work. This is another one that I haven’t seen on a big screen and I see this as one of those very beautiful mood pieces. Each film is like a work of art, and just based on the atmosphere and locations alone, they're always places where I want to go and visit, and wish I could have some reason to exist among these characters and spaces. They’re just so hypnotic and they also have a sense of tranquility and peace amongst a larger story, maybe grief and suffering, but the worlds these stories take place in are always so gorgeous.
