Koji Shiraishi (Noroi: The Curse, Sadako vs. Kayako, Grotesque) is back and we’re thrilled to see he hasn’t lost his touch. Better still he wonderfully revisits the haunted house movie and shows he can still terrorize us: by sending us back to the glory days of J-Horror, he gives it unexpected directions. Because House of Sayuri, far from sticking to genre, is even more surprising when it spins into a devastating and vengeful frenzy - in violence as well as humor - and when the badass grandmother (unleashed Toshie Negishi) takes things in hand. A joyful blend of triviality and elegance.
