Director's cut
In 1911, in Southern India, Elise, a privileged young English girl, and Tusk the elephant are born on the same day. Their destinies will be forever linked…
When Jodorowsky disowns a film sabotaged by the producer, he never really gives up. After the re-edit of The Rainbow Thief (shown at the festival in 2019), here’s the director’s cut of his only adventure movie for children, cut down from two hours to 68 minutes! Jodo subverts the post-colonial adventure film in favor of an initiation tale crossed by mysticism with a direction - comedy parts included - sometimes inspired by silent films or comic books. Very ironic in its mockery of the conqueror spirit and formal British education, this ode to freedom that sets humans and animals on equal footing, embraces Indian spirituality while adhering to the codes of naive and manichean fables.
