Because she’s lost a tooth, AP consults a fortune teller in the bayou, who tells her that she has been cursed, and will have to sacrifice a lamb and pay one thousand dollars. With her faithful friend Danni, she travels across the country to find money by selling her body to break the curse.
You’re looking for a US oddity worthy of Sweet East (shown at l’Étrange two years ago)? Search no more. A trashy fantasy shot in 16mm in Louisiana, Fucktoys depicts an alienated America but chooses to fantasize it, to mutate it into weird eccentricity. Before and behind the camera, Annapurna Sriram could well have led AP’s adventures into sordidness, but her ode to sorority, her kitschiness, her very caring frontally queer outlook, make her Gregg Araki’s worthy heir: raw, poetic and radiant.
