A little Greek city. In an uncertain era. Men rule, all in arms. Women have become a currency to exchange against oil drums, the sole source of revenue. To everyone’s surprise, Maria, the little protegée of the ailing chief, is selected on the list of successors…
For her first feature film Evi Kalogiropoulou delivers a contemporary feminist reinterpretation of the Gorgon myth. Dystopia is particularly well aligned with mythology, its metallic stripped down apocalyptic settings echoing both the ancient and the timeless. Steeped in symbolism that, stone by stone, dismantles the machinery of masculinity, this queer fable sculpts bodies as Claire Denis would, and lets an erotic tension slowly seep in, driven by an electrifying pair of actresses.
