Japan, in the middle of the Meiji era. Ryuko Yano, known as Oryū the Red Peony, travels to learn to be a yakuza. With the help of her companions, she sets off to find the man who murdered her father five years earlier.
This first adventure of the Red Peony lays the foundations for the saga, setting a tone mixing crime and tragedy. With an upbeat tempo and an elegance that would endure throughout the whole series. As determined as she is, Oryu needs men to help her accomplish her vengeance. Junko Fuji is already captivating, and Ken Takakura as imperial as ever.
