Brand new master
Oryū is looking for Kimiko Igarashi, a young blind woman she had to abandon years earlier after her implication in her parents’ death. She’s thrown into a new gang war set in the Tokyo theater world.
Oryū’s Return also marks that of the great Tai Katō, whose dazzling style is recognizable from the very first scenes, and the master makes particularly good use of his untypical theater sets, offering a fascinating game of mirrors that gradually increases the tension. Another surprising choice by the filmmaker: throughout the movie, he deploys an utterly breathtaking violence, as rarely seen before.
