In the 70s, an actress is playing the lead role in an adaptation of Andersen’s The Snow Queen. Jeanne, a young orphan who has found refuge in the film studio, will engage in a troubling relationship with her. The fairy tale appears to become real… But at what cost?
The fact that since Evolution, one of the great French filmmakers in activity has become more prolific, is enough to make us happy. Four years after the magnetic Earwig, she revisits The Snow Queen, but by veering the mythical tale away from a family audience format, she delivers an adult reappropriation, haunted, tormented, always avid to experiment shapes and narrations that lead us away from reality and our certainties. But after all, hasn't Lucile Hadžihalilovic always created cruel fairy tales, that are sensorial and steeped in uncanny strangeness?
