A fragmented portrait of Meredith Monk—performer, singer, dancer, actress, choreographer, filmmaker—who shook up aesthetic norms by erasing boundaries between art forms.
A brilliant visionary artist in all disciplines, a free and revolutionary spirit, she was misunderstood in her beginnings in the 1970s. Her very peculiar use of her voice makes her a pioneer. She would inspire many creators such as Bjork or David Byrne… In the image of its subject, and mirroring the form of her fractured theatre, Billy Shebar conceived his film like a mosaic—shards of a mirror reflecting all her facets at once. Now, at eighty-two, she is—perhaps for the first time—beginning to let go, entrusting her music to other artists, and inviting us to ask: how will we live without her?
