Deep in the jungles of Papua New Guinea, two explorers uncover a long-lost temple, where they discover a mummy and steal its brain. Brought back to Thailand, it becomes the centerpiece of dark rituals, unleashing a wave of gruesome murders across the city.
In the great tradition of the Shaw Brothers’ horror movies (in parallel with their massive production of martial arts movies), this film by Lo Lieh, better known as the lead actor of Five Fingers of Death, is more hilarious than it’s terrifying; but like Seeding of a Ghost directed the same year, it’s contaminated by true madness and jubilant bad taste. This is a true artisan’s work, a fine specimen of bygone popular culture, marked with frenzy and trivial poetry.
