In 19th century Mexico, Frankelda, recently orphaned, writes to drown her sorrow and travels through the imaginary landscapes of her pages in the form of a ghost, helped along by the Prince of Specters. But how can she balance fiction and reality without losing her grip?
We all remember Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride’s carnival of the dead inspirations. Back to the roots: this is the first fully stop-motion Mexican film by the Ambriz brothers, protégés of Guillermo Del Toro, who dive gleefully into their country's imagery, delivering a tale that is both baroque and gothic, wild and melodramatic, a dizzying, colorful whirlwind.
