Ellen lives with her younger demented sister Cissy in a house cluttered by African artwork. Cissy keeps an ape inherited from her anthropologist father in a cage. After repeated mistreatments, the animal dies. And like the previous times, she asks for a new monkey.
A totally cult movie, The Mafu Cage has lost none of its disturbing power, its atmosphere of suffocating madness, that makes the Hudson sisters relationship look like a rom-com. Visible or hidden incest fuel this psychodrama with raw cutting unnerving cruelty, that scrutinizes an animality far more deadly than that of the apes, and a spirit of conquest that declares its love for distant civilizations only to better colonize them. In her madness and her passion for her daddy, Cissy prolongs abuse in the private sphere.
