Infantilized by his mother and hated by his stepfather, Martin is a disturbed young man who retreats into the persona of a six-year-old child. Under the identity of Georgie, he forms an obsessive friendship with Susan. She begins to pull away… without realizing the consequences.
We know Bernard Hermann’s score, that Tarantino borrowed for Kill Bill, better than the gem it was made for. Twisted Nerve is to Roy Boulting - a specialist of 50s and 60s British satirical comedies - what Peeping Tom was to Michael Powell. A brilliant terror movie drawing as much from giallo as from Hitchcock, waltzing between deviant psychodrama and the most British horror where the mounting tension never conceals insanity’s despair.

An ambiguous protagonist who, in my strong opinion, gave birth to Travis Bickle from Taxi Driver by Martin Scorsese.

The charming manner of British humor, seasoned with Boulting's experience, made this story of a madman unexpectedly light and incredibly free for its time.

The director's ability to create villains is unwavering — the main character here is both a child and a killer in one.

This is pure character-study directing: the film is a masterclass in how to build three-dimensional characters.
