From Full Circle to Candyman, the hellish nightmare of the trapped woman could be seen as a fantasy sub-genre. Undeniably, Andreas Prochaska knows his classics. This modern variation on Rosemary’s Baby reconstructs Polanski’s grotesque patterns, and mimics Mia Farrow’s gestures and expressions of fear, with a Gerti Drassl often looking eerily like her. The filmmaker opts for a realism that crumbles slowly away and flirts with the incantations of folk horror.
