A young cripple takes revenge on his criminal tormentors, by using a magic spell that turns him into an oily monster.
In the midst of an erotica horror wave, the Shaw brothers delivered this very loose adaptation of a Malay legend, shot in its country of origin, somewhere between guilty pleasure and straight out revelry. When the hero takes on the bad guys doused in oil and other greasy substances, he becomes a mix of superheroes and The Garbage Pail Kids. We challenge you not to laugh when the rubbery maniac appears, charging against evil. Sailing among the genres - existential melodrama, horror, erotica - and references (including Kurosawa’s Rashōmon!), Ho Meng-hua runs on wacky fuel, and his joy spreads like an oil spill.
