The odyssey of the revolutionary Texan art-punk band and its founders: singer Gibby Haynes and guitarist Paul Leary.
When Tom Stern isn’t co-directing zany unclassifiable films like Freaked with Alex Winter, he nonetheless remains true to his love of the fringes and the anti-social, with this documentary as fascinating as it’s moving. The scriptwriter said he was inspired by James L. Brooks, and indeed, not only is the result insane, but it’s also very touching, bitter, and prone to pull tears from the most insensitive viewer’s eyes.

Laurent Courau / La Spirale

To the traditional question “What album would you take to a desert island?", I answer without hesitation: “The Butthole Surfers complete discography”. A wild squad of Texan mad men, as punk as they’re psychedelic, with the options LSD, “bad trip” and shotgun, and whose adventures are told here with brio by Tom Stern. Totally total!
