An immersion into the world of the counterculture pope and comic art genius Robert Crumb. Scrutinizing his artwork, his family relationships or his relations with past partners, the filmmaker paints the portrait of a major artist, without avoiding the subject’s ambiguities.
Before adapting Daniel Clowe’s Ghost World, Terry Zwigoff tackled the legendary Robert Crumb in this definitive work, no doubt one of the best documentaries ever made about an artist, as brilliant in its matter as in its form. The movie could be titled Inside Robert Crumb, given how deeply it dives into his intimacy, letting the viewer judge the man as much as his work. An exemplary approach, and a hell of a trip.

I went to see Crumb like one goes to the zoo, just to stare at the beast. I’ll never forget it was on his comic Fritz the Cat that I performed my first wankings. Thank you, Robert.
