Raised in the jungle by The Master, king of the tropical forest, the members of the “Tristes Tropiques” organization have become expert assassins. But when an event upsets their balance, suspicions arise among them and the past resurges. The time for bloody vengeance is nigh.
Since he met with the devil, Park Hoon-jung doesn’t need to prove the darkness of his world views. Much like The Lord of the Flies, he addresses the issue of childhood maimed of its innocence and contaminated by evil. This head on approach is doubled with an immeasurable and deeply moving melancholy that transcends the amazing action scenes. We hadn’t seen such an alliance of extreme brutality and hypnotic contemplation since the splendid Monos.
