It’s hard to be a punk and a muslim, to be British and Pakistanese. Ali Nawaz named his band Fun-Da-Mental as pure provocation, at a time where, after the controversy about The Satanic Verses, all muslims were labeled as fundamentalists. He retraces his journey from the 70s to the years 2000, discussing his controversial albums - Seize the Time or Erotic Terrorism - culminating with All Is War.
Torn between his two cultures, this angry, subversive and humanist artist has no regrets. « I think I just kept true to my belief (…) but it is based not on chaos, but it is based on maybe a fantasy for progress. I’ve always wanted to bring people together (…) And I failed miserably! »

“Before there was punk, there were the Fugs: antagonistic, hilarious, and radically political to the bone.” (Pitchfork)
Iconic counterculture and US avant-garde figures of the mid 60s, The Fugs set the New York scene ablaze with their absurdities, their provocations and their overtly sexual lyrics. Transgressive in an exemplary obscene way, they displayed their libido as much as their pacifism, and were among the first to denounce the Vietnam war. In a conservative America, they imposed themselves as enemies of the establishment, even drawing the ire of the FBI. Rich in archival footage and firsthand testimonies, Chuck Smith's documentary pays a vibrant tribute to these subversive troublemakers, irreverent geniuses whose drive for freedom could be summed up in one resounding cry: "Fug you!"
