In the harbour village of Hope, animals are found slaughtered, the town center lies in ruins, and a mystery remains: what creature could have wreaked such havoc? Beom-seok, the local police chief, goes on the hunt along with other heavily armed village folk, well set on unraveling the mystery of this invisible presence.
With Hope, Na Hong-jin signs the great comeback of monster movies. Between his thrilling spectacular action scenes, the frantic pace and breathtaking tracking shots, the director doesn’t just content himself with a simple genre exercise. He pushes the cursor into heroic fantasy, science fiction and apocalyptic movies, never losing nor his exquisite humor or the welcome sense of detachment that make this improbable genre mashup as delightful as it is unique.
